Preparation | Furfural (30mmol) and ZnCl2(30mmol) are dissolved in AcOH(30mL) and stirred at room temperature. After 1 hour, a small amount of acetic acid (5mL) in the substrate (10mmol) was added. The mixture was stirred at 70°C for 24 hours, and the mixture was diluted with Et2O(100mL), followed by washing with 0.1N Na2S2O3(50mL),0.1N NaHCO3(20mL) and salt water (20mL). The organic phase is dried (Na2SO4), the solvent is removed to obtain the crude product, which is purified by column chromatography or vacuum distillation to obtain the product 5-chloro-2-furfural with 10% yield. |
